Who is Donna Jo Thorndale:
Donna Jo Thorndale is a Los Angeles-based actress and writer. Originally from Lexington, Kentucky, she hails from a long line of sassy joke-tellers. Her love of improvisation, food, music, and social justice led her to create Chef Jewell Rae Jeffers, a Southern Celebrity Chef out to solve America’s political and social problems the old-fashioned way, with food. As Chef Jewell Rae, she toured her improvised show to Chicago, and NYC, and “All Cake, No File: The Johnny Cash Prison Tribute Cooking Show” played in CA State Prisons and enjoyed an 8-week run at The Actors’ Gang, where she had the best job of her life, teaching for over a decade in their Prison Project and Education Department. She is a graduate of bang.improv studios and The Second City. Theatre chops include Williamstown Theatre Festival and The Actors’ Gang. TV brags are with her comedy heroes – Marc Maron (The Maron Show) and Tig Nataro (One Mississippi). She writes about the intersections of freedom/self-expression as related to punk rock/kids, food/politics, and cooking/meditation. Recent essays and poems appear in the feminist anthology Feckless Cunt and the upcoming Is It Hot In Here or Is It Just Me?
